A Note from our Youth Pastor

Raising teenagers can be tough, but you’re not alone. Our team for Aftershock Student Ministry is filled with parents and grandparents ready to assist you and pray with you. This page is filled with resources to assist you as raise teenagers in this hectic world. My team and I are here as much for your students as we are for you. We believe that for us to successfully be on the front lines with your teenagers, we must be in the foxhole with you.

Three things I want to tell parents

  1. I am on your side. We are not against you, we do not try to “debunk” what you teach your students at home and we are not their sole place of learning about Jesus. We are your biggest cheerleaders and we want an open line of communication to you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.
  2. I do not have the biggest impact on your teenager’s spiritual lives. You do. My team and I do have an impact on your students. But the biggest impact on their spiritual life comes from you. I can only subsidize what you are teaching your student
  3. You don’t have to be perfect. I remember one time I was riding in the car with a fellow Youth Pastor and Mark Matlock. My friend was  a few weeks away from becoming a dad and wanted to get some advice from the parent of two teenagers. He told my friend straight up “You are going to mess up your kids.” We laughed, but looking at his face he was serious. You aren’t going to be perfect, you will make mistakes and that is okay. Just like you did, your students learn just as much from your mistakes as you did from your parents. God never called you to be perfect parents, he called you to love your children and teach them the ways of the Lord (Deut. 6:7).
